I don’t have the same athletic background that a lot of coaches have. I was a runner in high school, but not my entire high school career. I always struggled with keeping a consistent exercise routine. My weight and attitude fluctuated a lot during my high school years. Prior to joining CrossFit Haymaker I did some basic lifting like squats, deadlifts, and bench press but wasn’t varied with my movements. Overall, I didn’t really challenge myself and was pretty low-key with my potential.
My family is from the Warsaw area and I have lived here all of my life except for my college years and a stint in Michigan in grade school. I’m very lucky that both my family and my husband’s family are in the area. We have two dogs and two cats – the dogs keep us very busy. We have an Australian Cattle dog that consistently runs with me and keeps me on my toes! I’m very competitive – I’m not really talking about in the gym but in board games! My friends tease me quite a bit when I get frustrated when I don’t win or feel like I got cheated.
I really love coaching, because I love seeing someone have the Lightbulb moment. That is so cool for me, especially if it is something that has taken a while to get. We are all working towards the goal of fitness so when someone takes a huge step towards that goal it is very rewarding to witness.
I would want to tell someone hesitant that we have all been there. Even the most experienced CrossFit athletes had to walk through the door for their first workout – so you are in good company! Anyone, and I mean anyone can do CrossFit! That is what is so neat about it, no matter where you are in your life the workouts can come to meet you. Scaling any workout isn’t just an option, it’s encouraged so you can feel confident that you achieved your goals. I have dealt with health issues in the past, and staying active really helped me bounce back from them. I want to know that whatever comes my way that I can stay physically engaged and be a better person because of it. I want that for other people as well.
